The Director of Plant Protection of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari’s Agricultural Jihad announced the implementation of forecasting pilot projects to combat pests as one of the main executive programs of the province’s plant protection and added: In this regard, the execution of five specialized pilots, including peach powdery mildew and almond seed wasp for the first time in the country, and the issuance of 30 provincial and 24 district forecasting advisories for farmers have been carried out.

Shabani evaluated biological control to reduce pest populations using natural enemies based on active human intervention as very important in reducing farmers’ costs and stated: In this direction, the use of 5,500 mating disruption pheromones for codling moth in 6 hectares of Boroujen orchards, employing 1,800 leopard moth pheromones and 500 grape berry moth pheromones, implementing mass trapping of walnut leopard moth in 15 hectares and fig fly in 2 hectares, and releasing Trichogramma wasps against rice stem borer pest in 320 hectares of rice fields and pomegranate orchards have been conducted in the past nine months. These biological measures are an important step in reducing chemical pesticide use and protecting the province’s environment.

He cited tracking damaging agents across 141,270 hectares of farms and 46,847 hectares of orchards, supervision by 21 experts on the province’s key products including rice, corn, potatoes, rapeseed, irrigated and rainfed wheat, and greenhouse products over 5,650 hectares, combating cereal bugs across 14,956 hectares, locusts in 1,000 hectares, and rodents in 1,185 hectares, and a total monitoring, tracking, and control effort exceeding 454,000 hectares as part of this department’s performance in integrated pest and disease management.

The Director of Plant Protection of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari’s Agricultural Jihad stated that economic savings to reduce farmers’ costs and prevent serious damage to agricultural products are among this department’s key programs and continued: In this regard, chemical control over 7,550 hectares against corn leafworms and autumn pests prevented 5,600 billion Rials in damage.

Shabani emphasized: If this control had not been carried out, the province’s farmers would have faced heavy losses. This success demonstrates the importance of scientific and timely pest management.

He added: Regarding input supervision, 293 inspections of plant protection pharmacies and the execution of three national pesticide monitoring drills were conducted in the province.
