The Role of Import Facilitation in Reducing Inflation

Jalil Jalali Far, an economic expert, in a conversation with Mehr News Agency in relation to the urgent government’s action to eliminate inflation from the country’s economy said: The government should use artificial intelligence tools to shorten the time and increase service productivity; that is, increase the speed of doing things. The government must use artificial intelligence in all sectors.

He stated: A trader has to wait two months for a trade card and for imports, must pass 16 obstacles instead of the seven tests to be able to import goods. The government should establish a policy to determine whether the import of a commodity is prohibited or controllable with tariffs.

This economic expert stated: The same import order registration system is inflationary. When the capital turnover period is prolonged, it leads to inflation. When goods are imported to wait for the order to be registered and the government to allocate currency, it takes several months; while continuously importing with the invested capital could happen.

Jalali Far said: The bureaucracy and import process in our country is very frightening and one of the reasons is the size of the government. The government should shrink itself and reduce its costs. The next step is to facilitate the import and export route. If something is not supposed to be imported, ban it and the goods that should be imported to protect domestic production, should be imported with facilities.

He emphasized: Inflation is that part of the cost increase that affects the livelihood of middle and low-income families. The government has significant weaknesses in the service sector, leading to higher costs and creating inflation.

This economic analyst acknowledged: The single-rate policy should be implemented in the country. The single-rate policy has nothing to do with people’s livelihood and where it harms people’s livelihood is in the provision of essential goods; of course, this is also debatable, meaning the government pays additional costs there.

Jalali Far added: The government should increase the consumption subsidy for the people in this policy and people should manage their expenses. Give people the authority to control their own expenses, not pour the country’s currency into the pockets of a few. The inflation in our society is easily controllable, but in the government, they say to give opinions, but they do not pay attention to those opinions.
