AI Summary: South Khorasan province has achieved first place in Iran’s export rankings, with Mahirud customs becoming the top export terminal. The province accounted for one million tons of Iran’s total three million ton exports, with significant infrastructure developments and border crossing improvements contributing to this success.

According to the Mehr News Agency reporter, Seyed Mohammad Reza Hashemi stated on Sunday night during the meeting of the South Khorasan Export Development Working Group: The country’s total exports amounted to three million and twenty-three thousand tons in weight, of which one million tons were from South Khorasan.

He added: In terms of dollar value, the country’s total exports were $1.155 billion, of which $230 million belonged to South Khorasan.

Noting that South Khorasan has ranked first in the country in terms of export value this year, he continued: Among the 70 active customs offices in the country, Mahirud Customs has managed to secure the first rank in exports, followed by the customs offices of Mashhad, Arak, Yazd, Isfahan, Alvand Free Trade Zone, and Abadan in subsequent positions.

The Governor of South Khorasan, referring to the important capacities of the Mahirud border, stated: Many people in the country still don’t know this border well, but today Mahirud has become one of the main export hubs in the eastern part of the country.

Hashemi continued: This year, 995,000 tons of goods worth $240 million were exported through the Mahirud border, and in the Birjand Special Economic Zone, 40,000 tons of goods worth $16 million were sent abroad.

He added: Achieving these successes is the result of constructive interaction and cooperation between executive bodies, border guards, and the private sector, which has led to export growth and economic prosperity in the province.

The Governor of South Khorasan, referring to the development of border infrastructure in the province, said: Increasing Mahirud Customs’ working hours until 11 PM and preparing roads and transit routes are among the measures taken to facilitate the export process.

Hashemi announced the commissioning of the Farah to Mahirud road in early next year and added: Completing this project will play an important role in strengthening trade relations with Afghanistan and developing the province’s exports.

He also announced the registration of more than 12,000 households in support programs for rural and border areas, stating: The implementation of these programs has significantly contributed to population retention in villages and preventing migration.

The Governor of South Khorasan further stated: Establishing dry ports and freight terminals in Sarbisheh or Darhaz counties are among the projects on the agenda, and if implemented, will pave the way for obtaining porterage permits and boosting border trade.

Hashemi emphasized: The 118% growth in the province’s exports indicates a reduction in raw material sales and an increase in processed products, which promises a bright future for South Khorasan’s economy.

Finally, he expressed gratitude for the efforts of exporters and economic activists, saying: Continuing export growth and supporting the private sector are serious priorities of the provincial management in achieving sustainable economic development.
