AI Summary: Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development honored transportation martyrs and highlighted the sector’s pivotal role during the Sacred Defense era. She emphasized that logistics formed the backbone of the war effort, from clearing ports to supplying frontlines. The minister called for strengthening the industry by drawing on that same spirit of sacrifice.

According to a Mehr News reporter, Farzaneh Sadegh, the Minister of Roads and Urban Development, speaking today (Thursday, December 18) at a ceremony renewing the covenant of transportation epic-makers with the ideals of Imam Khomeini on the occasion of Transportation Day, held at the Jamaran Hosseiniyeh, pointed to the strategic position of transportation in the country’s contemporary history and stated: Movement and transportation were the pillar of the eight years of the Sacred Defense, and its role in supporting the war was decisive and irreplaceable.

The Minister of Roads and Urban Development, honoring the memory of transportation martyrs, added: Before any words, I find it necessary to salute all the martyrs of the transportation sector, from the road and rail sections to ports, pilots, aviation activists, road builders, and roadkeepers; the dear ones who from this very place pledged allegiance to Imam Khomeini and their mentor, departed for the fronts, and some of whom attained the blessing of martyrdom.

Sadegh continued: Jamaran and the Hosseiniyeh of Imam Khomeini is a place from which many martyrs were sent off to defend the honor and dignity of Islamic Iran. The families of these martyrs, after many years, once again renewed their covenant with their Imam in this same place and clearly and transparently declared that their hearts are still devoted to the Imam’s ideals.

Referring to the occasion of Transportation Week, she said: Transportation Week begins on December 17 and continues until December 23, Roadkeepers’ Day. This week coincides with Strategic Day, and we are happy to be present on its second day at the Jamaran Hosseiniyeh in the presence of the heir of the late Imam.

The Minister of Roads and Urban Development, recalling Imam Khomeini’s historic order on December 17, said: With the issuance of this order, a great action was taken in less than a week; an action that might have taken months under normal circumstances. This great task was carried out by the people themselves; drivers who, despite all difficulties, placed their lives and property, which were their trucks, on the platter of sincerity and entered the arena.

She recalled: The result of this sacrifice was the rapid clearance of ports and the provision of the needs of the fronts. This movement was carried out along the same routes that engineers, contractors, and workers had toiled for years to create the infrastructure for; routes that played a vital role during the Sacred Defense era.

Sadegh emphasized the role of logistics in the imposed war, stating: During the eight years of the Sacred Defense, logistics, preparedness, support, and transportation were the backbone of the war. From the transfer of fighters who were dispatched from all over the country, from the railway station and via rail lines towards the fronts, to the routes traveled by bus and the equipment that reached the front lines by trucks.

She clarified: The transportation of ammunition, food, sanitary items, emergency equipment, and everything related to supporting the war rested on the shoulders of the country’s transportation network. Also, the bridges that were built and the field hospitals that were established with minimal facilities are part of that same immense and enduring effort, the effects of which still remain.

The Minister of Roads and Urban Development, emphasizing the necessity of preserving this heritage, noted: Today, it is our duty, relying on that same spirit of sacrifice and jihad, to strengthen the country’s transportation industry and further enhance its strategic position in development and national security.
