Iran Sets Ambitious Goals for Saffron Production and Exports with Cooperative Network Support

Mohammad Reza Talayi, the head of Iran’s Rural Cooperative Organization, announced ambitious goals for saffron production and exports at the first National Saffron Day festival.

Talayi emphasized the significant role of saffron as an export product in boosting the economy, creating sustainable jobs, and generating foreign exchange. He highlighted the support provided by the Minister of Agriculture for this valuable commodity.

“Iran produces 90% of the world’s saffron and controls more than 400 tons of the global saffron market,” Talayi said, underlining the country’s dominance in the saffron industry.

The official emphasized the importance of leveraging research and commercial dialogue opportunities provided by the festival to achieve the set goals. He further stated, “We must reduce production costs and increase productivity, utilizing the findings of associations and research centers that have been implemented in farms.”

Talayi stressed the need for targeted planning for exports, foreign exchange earnings, and sustainable employment.

Highlighting the organization’s extensive network, Talayi said, “The Rural Cooperative Organization of Iran manages more than 8,000 organizations as a network and plays its role in line with its duties. We hope to utilize the province’s capabilities to assist saffron farmers.”
