Government potatoes are widely available.

According to Mehr correspondent, potatoes are one of the essential commodities that experienced over a 100% price increase last year.

The Ministry of Agriculture Jihad, in order to manage the market and balance supply and demand despite the surplus export of domestically produced potatoes, allowed imports. Thus, potatoes were imported from neighboring countries like Pakistan and offered at fruit and vegetable markets at a rate of 29,500 tomans per kilogram.

This measure somewhat reduced the rate of this high-consumption product for Iranian households, and prices returned from 60,000 to 80,000 tomans to about 50,000 tomans in the city.

However, during the Nowruz holidays, we witnessed an increase in prices of certain vegetables, including potatoes and green bell peppers. Currently, potatoes in city fruit shops are about 60,000 to 80,000 tomans per kilogram, and the price of green bell peppers rose from 69,000 tomans in March to 140,000 tomans in the second week of April.

While it is claimed that potatoes at the rate of 29,500 tomans are not available in fruit markets, the CEO of the Tehran Municipality’s Fruit and Vegetable Market Management Organization denied it and said that despite the increase in potato prices in the city, this product is abundantly and sufficiently offered at fruit and vegetable markets for 29,500 tomans.
